Functional Principles
Spirit Dosing Mechanism
The spirits module employs a fixed-volume dosing device that dispenses 2 cL (20 mL) per cycle and then automatically refills from the source bottle. Actuation is provided by a Parallax 900-00005 servo operating at 5 V under PWM control. The servo executes precise angular motion (up to ~180°), which is converted to linear displacement through a rack-and-pinion linkage to drive the nozzle/handle. This positive and repeatable transmission ensures reliable engagement of the dosing mechanism and consistent volumetric delivery.
From a performance perspective, the servo’s rated torque (~2.7 kg·cm) is sufficient for the required valve/nozzle forces, while its positional accuracy enables tight control over stroke endpoints and dwell times. Integrating the servo within the mixer’s electronics simplifies control (single-channel PWM) and facilitates synchronization with sensing or safety interlocks if required. Overall, the architecture combines a calibrated, self-refilling volumetric dispenser with a high-resolution electromechanical drive, yielding repeatable 20 mL shots, minimal variance between cycles, and straightforward compatibility with the system’s control framework.
